#ACTforActing Online Introduction
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Training) is a skills-based model for the development of psychological flexibility: the ability to 'open up, be present and do what matters'. Drawing upon this model, #ACTforActing is a pioneering new approach to acting and actor training, which aims to:
- Promote and support the psychological flexibility of actors and other practitioners.
- Refresh and revitalise psychological approaches to dramatic texts and characters.
- Offer practical techniques to enhance and improve rehearsal practice.
On this course, we will introduce the core concepts and processes of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Training) and explore their relevance to the actor and the acting process through discussion, demonstration and experiential exercises.
As a standalone course, the work of these sessions will give you a series of tools and techniques to explore your own psychological flexibility and an understanding of how you might want to employ these skills in your work as a professional actor. Within the broader context of The Working Action Group and our #ACTforActing project, this introductory course also serves as the foundation for future work and involvement with the group. Having completed these sessions, you will be eligible to join further workshops and courses - and to get involved in our creative research projects - if you wish to do so.
We'll announce details of the next 8-session introduction course shortly. In the meantime, head over to Crowdcast and get involved in some of the workshops we're offering there: My Events – Crowdcast
